Merry Christmas 2007!

I got an excellent present this year. My bro-in-law built me an animator's lightbox based on the diagram in the back of Preston Blair's excellent book, Cartoon Animation.

Here are a few images of the box itself.

This is the front. You can see the fluorescent bulb. It's better for the environment.:-) Also through the glass you can see the marks from my tenure as a painting student. I'm messy.

Here is a larger 3/4 view (click on the image to see it full size). The edges of the box are rounded smooth.

I also bought some 10-field student paper from Lightfoot's Cartoon Supplies. The box will take up to 12f paper. I got the round hole paper and two round-peg bars--one for the box and one for my scanner--because they are geared toward students. Let's face it I don't know what I'm doing.

I also received The Animator's Workbook by Tony White.

And last but certainly not least is the book that started me thinking about the box in the first place.

Well I hope that you all had a happy holiday season. It looks like I have my work cut out for me in the new year.

My YouTube Republican Debate Animation

This is the animation that I did for the YouTube Republican debate. It refers to the FairTax, a proposal that would eliminate the IRS and repeal the 16th amendment to the Constitution in favor of a national retail sales tax. To find more info on the FairTax go to FairTax.org.

The animation was done in ToonBoom Studio and compressed in Ulead Media Studio Pro.

The Bible Character Sketches

Here are some character sketches from another animation project that I am working on, tentatively titled The Bible.

Campus Cops Character Sketches

Here is a character montage from an animation project that I am developing. Later I'll try to ink and paint it to clean it up.

First Entry

Welcome to the Redneck Studio blog. I am an artist and an animator and I want to post production images and notes about the various projects that I'll be working on.

My name is Ronald Lanham Jr. and I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design and painting. I haven't been much good since. While in my senior year I discovered 3d animation with Cinema 4D and later Lightwave and other cgi programs. Since that time I have been teaching myself animation. Over the last two years I have added 2d animation to my palette with a program called Toon Boom Studio. Toon Boom is really cool and I'll probably talk about it in a later post.

Obviously as an artist and an animator I love comic books, anime, and traditional 2d and 3d/cgi animation. I also love scifi, fantasy, and horror in any medium, particularly books and movies.

I also love politics. I am a libertarian-Republican, so I love minimum government with maximum freedom. I'll definitely talk about that later. My political blog can be found at TownHall.com as The America Report

Well thanks for reading and keep returning. You never know it might even be worth it.
